Chris is the creative talent behind Flamin’ Galah. His illustration skills and funny ideas together give Flamin’ Galah its unique style.
Chris lives in Melbourne with his partner Kate with whom he runs Flamin’ Galah. Chris studied Graphic Design and Fine Art at Ballarat University and has since done a number of different jobs and freelance projects. Currently, as well as creating designs for Flamin’ Galah, he works as a cartoonist/illustrator at the Herald Sun newspaper and does a daily cartoon for the London Paper in England.
Previously Chris has been a regular cartoonist for the Big Issue magazine in Australia and the Daily Telegraph newspaper in the UK. He has also worked for a design studio, an advertising agency and a publishing company. In fact this broad experience is a real asset for Flamin’ Galah because Chris combines his artistic skills with a business mindset.
Chris wanted to be a cartoonist/illustrator for as long as he can remember. The early signs of his obsession came at school when he would sit for hours in class doing caricatures of his teachers and schoolmates. As a young boy he collected Jeff Hook cartoons and found Peanuts (Snoopy) and Footrot Flats his early sources of inspiration. At high school he started doing gag cartoons for his local paper the Bacchus Marsh Express and then later at university for the Ballarat Courier.
As well as spending a lot of time drawing, Chris also loves travelling. He lived in England for a few years and has travelled round Europe, Asia and Africa. Visiting other countries and meeting people from different cultures is an important stimulus for Chris and these experiences often reflect in his ideas.
